Teachers pass along the knowledge of a certain area of expertise to help their students grow and become better at that craft.

Coaching is no different.

This is the fifth installment of USF's feature video series entitled "Teacher," which profiles the head coaches at the University of San Francisco who dedicate their lives to ensure student-athletes reach their full potential on the playing field, in the classroom and life.

With unique behind-the-scenes footage of practice sessions, competitions and personal one-on-one interaction between USF's head coaches and their student-athletes, "Teacher" attempts to show viewers the bond that is developed between a coach and student-athletes.

"It doesn't matter how much you know until they know how much you care," San Francisco women's basketball coach Jennifer Azzi says of her student-athletes.

Her caring bond with each player on her team is evident as she fosters the women in the program through their collegiate career and beyond, developing a life-long connection. After that bond of caring and encouragement is established, Azzi imparts the extensive basketball knowledge she has garnered as a NCAA champion, Wade Trophy award winner, Naismith Player of the Year, Olympic gold medalist, WNBA All-Star and Women's Basketball Hall of Famer.

In her fourth year at USF, Azzi is bringing her gold-medal game to the Hilltop building the Dons' basketball program back to prominence. In the process of regrowth, the focus is not on results but rather on character, leadership, and development - on the court and off. From all-conference awards to all-academic selections, USF is building for the future with one of the most storied names in women's basketball at the helm.
