Dons Place 13 on WCC Spring All-Academic Teams

(San Bruno, CA) - San Francisco placed 13 student-athletes on 2009 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic Teams, as announced by the conference today. Baseball led the way with four, followed by women's tennis with three. Men's tennis and men's and women's golf each had two.
Baseball has had four athletes make the All-Academic team five times in the last seven years. This season, junior outfielder Bobby Ethel (3.91, Chemistry), and senior outfielder Zach Kim (3.24, Business Administration) earned their second consecutive honors. Senior outfielder Drew Johnson (3.95, Accounting) and junior shortstop Derek Poppert (3.72, International Studies) each earned their first honor.
Women's tennis scored three nods with senior Mylene Martin (3.50, Sport Management) earning her third consecutive listing. Sophomore Jennifer-Lee Heinser (3.90, Business Administration) earned her second consecutive nod, with sophomore Cecilia Gratian (3.49, Business Administration) earning her first. On the men's side, both junior Rainer Nachbauer (3.37, Business/Finance) and senior Tommy Tu (3.26, Business/Finance) earned first time nods.
In men's golf, senior Kurt Nino (3.70, Business/Finance) earned his third consecutive honor, while junior Chris Cunningham (3.21, Accounting) earned his second. On the women's side, junior Natasha Podmore (3.38, Business/Marketing) takes home her second consecutive nod, and junior Danielle Cvitanov (3.61, Exercise and Sport Science) earns her first.
At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
"I am extremely proud of all of our WCC Spring All-Academic team members," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovch. "This is truly a unique group that has been able to balance athletics and academics at a high level and represent the core values of all of our member institutions."
