Ryan McCrary was hired at the University of San Francisco October in 1999 as an assistant media relations director and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations in August of 2007. Now entering his 10th year in the USF Athletic Department and 17th year in the West Coast Conference, McCrary coordinates the media coverage of all aspects of the Dons intercollegiate teams in the local, regional and national media and is the manager of the official website of USF Athletics, USFDons.com. McCrary earned his undergraduate degree in History with a minor in English from Gonzaga University in 1996 and added a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership in 1998. After spending four seasons as a student athletic trainer at Gonzaga, McCrary joined the Gonzaga Athletic Department as a graduate assistant for marketing and promotions and then served as a graduate assistant in the sports information office in 1997-98. After Gonzaga, McCrary worked as the assistant sports information director at the University of San Diego from August of 1998 to October of 1999. While at Alcala Park, McCrary publicized three top-25 programs and successfully promoted outside hitter Petia Yanchulova for First Team All-America honors. Since arriving at USF, McCrary has significantly upgraded the quality of athletic publications and promotional materials for Dons Athletics, has supervised three successful redesigns of USFDons.com and in October of 2008 posted his 1,500th game/event recap for the University of San Francisco. In addition to serving as the primary contact for men's soccer, men's basketball and men's and women's golf, McCrary has served as the play-by-play voice for Diamond Dons baseball since 2002 and USF men's soccer since 2005. For the last eight years, McCrary has worked for PA-Sportsticker as the lead reporter covering the San Francisco Giants. In 10 seasons working for the wire service, McCrary has covered multiple Major League Baseball postseasons - including the 2002 World Series and the 2007 All-Star Game. In addition McCrary served as PA-Sportsticker's lead reporter for on-site coverage of Barry Bonds' single-season home run chase (2001), his quest to pass Hank Aaron on the career list (2007) and all the controversy swirling around the seven-time National League MVP. McCrary has also covered the NFL and Major League Soccer. McCrary is a member of CoSIDA, the NBWAA and several other organizations. The Washingtonian is single and lives in San Francisco. |
