(San Francisco) – Anytime a new academic year starts at any
college athletic department throughout the country, there is plenty
of excitement surrounding the return of student-athletes as teams
report for preseason training. Heading into the 2011-12 season at
the University of San Francisco, supporters, fans, alumni, along
with student-athletes, coaches and staff are energized by exciting
changes for Dons Athletics under the direction of new Director of
Athletics Scott Sidwell.
In the span of 100 days on the job, Sidwell already has jumpstarted
the process of energizing USF Athletics through an ambitious series
of upgrades beginning with War Memorial Gym. The venerable home of
the Dons has undergone an extreme makeover in preparation for
2011-12. New carpet, new paint and hundreds of pictures have been
hung throughout the facility celebrating the accomplishments of USF
student-athletes on the court and field, in the classroom and in
the community.
Once the 2011-12 basketball seasons roll around, even more changes
will be evident. USF’s men’s basketball program marched
to the quarterfinals of the 2011 CollegeInsider.com Postseason
Tournament and looks forward to a highly anticipated season, while
women’s basketball welcomes an outstanding recruiting class.
Entering its 53rd year, War Memorial Gym will be prepared to host
the Dons faithful in style with the addition off some exciting
upgrades.
Major changes include the installation of two Daktronics LED
ribbon boards – similar to the ones used at AT&T Park and
the Oracle Arena – which will be attached to the beams
parallel to the court and new Daktronics LED scorer’s tables
which will be used to showcase USF sponsors, upcoming events,
promotions and the tradition of Green and Gold
Athletics.
