SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Fans will have the opportunity to get their first look at USF's men's and women's basketball teams this Friday as both teams will be showcased in the inaugural Hilltop HoopSFest beginning at 7:00 p.m. in War Memorial Gymnasium.
Festivities include team introductions, a three-point shooting and dunk contests, scrimmages and a dance-off contest between the two teams. The Don Band and spirit squad will also be on hand.
LIVE 105 on-air personality Miles the DJ will serve as host of the event, which is free of charge.
Fans are invited to a reception prior to the event beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the UC Solarium.
USF students are invited to enter a raffle for an all-expenses paid trip to the 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. Other student giveaways include the chance to win tickets to LIVE 105's Spookfest featuring Calvin Harris and Benny Benassi. Students can pick up free pizza at the student gate upon entry to the gym.
All fans in attendance at HoopSFest have the opportunity to be in a USF athletics commercial, being taped at the event.
USF's men's team under the direction of head coach
Rex Walters opens its season on Saturday, Oct. 27 with an exhibition contest against San Francisco State. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m in Memorial Gym. The Dons will also play a second exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 5 against UNC-Pembroke before opening the regular season against 2012 NIT champion Stanford at Oracle Area on Nov. 9.
Jennifer Azzi's women's squad will tip-off its season on Nov. 2 with an exhibition game against Missouri Southern State at 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Gym. The regular season opener is slated for Nov. 9 when Hawaii makes a visit to the Hilltop.
