EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – After an exciting freshman campaign in 2012-13, Zhané Dikes has been selected to the Preseason All-West Coast Conference Team, announced by the league offices at today's #WCCHoops Tip-Off event at the Time Warner Cable Studios.

Dikes, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., earned her way on the list after a freshman campaign where she averaged 10.8 points on 39.7 percent shooting from the field. She finished the season 13th on the WCC scoring list as the top point-getting freshman in the league.

Dikes also helped the team with 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.5 assists as the Dons notched their first double-digit win season since 2007-08. She earned the starting nod for the Dons in all 31 contests, playing the point guard position, and is one of two underclassmen to earn individual preseason honors, as voted on by the league's coaches.

"I think it's a tremendous honor for Z and for USF to have someone that young in that group," USF coach Jennifer Azzi said. "Hopefully it's good for her confidence, but I know that she doesn't care at all about individual awards.

"Any time a point guard gets that honor it's absolutely an award for the entire team. I think it's a great honor for the school and for the program, but for her it's something to be proud of but move on and lead her team."

The Dons were slated to finish in a tie for seventh in the preseason poll, earning 27 points. Alongside Portland and Santa Clara. Last year USF was slated at the bottom of the poll, and the rebuilding process for Dons basketball is being seen not only internally, but also throughout the league.

"What we've been looking for in this whole process of taking over USF is that it's a building process," Azzi said. "We just look to continue to improve every year, and I think the rankings are a sign of the program's improvement."

The Dons begin their 2013-14 schedule with an exhibition game at War Memorial Gym against Cal State Chico on Nov. 2, before kicking off the season in earnest Nov. 8 at Fordham.
