Alex Santiago Chooses USF Men's Tennis

SAN FRANCISCO – Head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida has recently announced Alex Santiago has signed a national letter of intent to play tennis at the University of San Francisco.
The Charleston, SC, native, and senior at Laurel Springs School has competed on the national stage in both hard court and clay court tournaments.
He's played as a member of his state's USTA Southern Cup Team, representing South Carolina, along with competing at various zone and region competitions. Santiago advanced to the 2012 USTA boys winter national championships round of 16 in both the main draw and doubles brackets.
"We are very excited to have Alex become a part of our program," Pires de Almeida said. "Alex has been a top Southern Section player throughout his junior career and is a late bloomer with a lot of upside for our program. He is a hard worker and will add to the depth of our team impacting the line up right away as a freshman."
Santiago has a multitude of doubles titles to his name, earned in juniors action. He has won two Southern Level I doubles titles, the National Open and Copper Bowl, along with taking the top of the podium at the 2012 state championships. Santiago has been ranked as high as third in the state.
"The coaches and players I spent time with were a major reason for my decision to commit to USF," Santiago said. "The culture of the City, as well as the right balance between academics and the tennis program are other reasons I chose to sign with the Dons."
Alex is not the only Santiago to play collegiate tennis, as his sister Natalie was the captain of her tennis team at Vassar College. Santiago will join the USF program for the 2014-15 season.
