SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Five San Francisco Diamond Dons have been named to the 2013 West Coast Conference Baseball All-Academic Team, announced WCC assistant commissioner Jeff Tourial. The Dons five selections tied Portland and Gonzaga for the most players chosen from one school.
Seniors Haden Hinkle (3.68 GPA, physics), Jason Mahood (3.57, sport management), Bob Mott (3.59, international studies), junior Abe Bobb (3.87, accounting/finance) and sophomore Christian Cecilio (3.53, business) comprised the Dons contingent.
The team set a program-high in the fall, posting a 3.31 cumulative GPA.
“Being named to the all-academic team is a reflection of the hard work our guys have put in throughout the year,” said USF head coach Nino Giarratano. “(Associate head coach) Greg Moore, Director of Student Persistence and Mentorship Programs Brenda Giarratano and Director of Student Achievement and Athletic Support Services Michael Bell do great things with the academics. We emphasize the importance of academics in our program, and I'm proud of the effort put forth in the classroom.”
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
