Dons need strong finish to secure top-five finish

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- USF's men's golf team is tied for eighth place after two rounds of the NCAA Columbus Regional being held on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State.
The Dons shot a 15-over par score of 299 on Friday sit at 596 (+28) at the 36-hole mark of the tournament. USF is currently nine strokes out of the coveted fifth spot held by Texas Tech and New Mexico, which are both at 587 (+19). Virginia is one stroke behind USF at 596.
UNLV and South Carolina are tied for the lead at 584 (+16), two strokes ahead of Auburn and Stanford. Texas Tech and New Mexico are tied for fifth place at 587 (+19)
The low five teams from each regional advance to the NCAA Championships which will be held later this month in Atlanta.
Carl Johnson of UNLV leads the field at 140 (-2) followed closely by Matias Dominguez of Texas Tech and Will Starke of South Carolina at 141 (-1).
USF's Cory McElyea, who shot a one-under 70 in his opening round yesterday, is tied for 16th place after carding a five over 76 on Friday.
Senior Travis Taylor posted a second round 75 and is tied for 25th place at 149 (+7).
Sophomore Jobim Carlos turned in the team's lowest round of the day, finishing with a three-over 74, two strokes better than his opening round 76. Carlos, who picked up birdies on holes 4, 9 and 14, is tied for 33rd place.
Freshman Sebastian Crookall-Nixon is tied for 45th at 152 (+10) after a second round 75.
Alika Bell shaved six strokes off his opening round 81 to shoot 75 on Friday and is tied for 66th at 156 (+14).
USF will be paired with Missouri and Charlotte in the final round of the Columbus Regional tomorrow.
