Final Round Results
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- USF's men's golf season came to end this afternoon after the Dons finishd 11th at the NCAA Columbus Regional which was held at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.
The Dons finished with a 54-hole team score of 893 (+41), good for 11th place and 14 strokes shy of the top-five finish needed to advance to the NCAA Championships later this month.
Top-seeded New Mexico overcame a slow start on Thursday to claim the team title with a final score of 870 (+18), two strokes clear of Auburn and South Carolina, which posted 872 for the three days of competition. UNLV (878) and Texas Tech (879) also earned top-five finishes to earn a spot in the finals.
Virginia mounted a last day charge, posting a final round 285 (+1) but came up three strokes short of breaking into the top five. Stanford, which began the day tied for third, shot a final round 298 (+14) and finished seventh.
James Erkenbeck of New Mexico shot a final round 68 to claim medalist honors with a three-under 210.
Cory McElyea was USF's top finisher, tying for 13th after a final round 72 left him with a 54-hole score of 218 (+5).
Freshman Sebastian Crookall-Nixon put together his best round of the tournament on Saturday, finishing with a 72 to tie for 37th at 224.
Senior Taylor Travis posted a 75 in his final round as a Don and was part of a large pack at 224 (+11).
Jobim Carlos carded a final round 78 and tied for 55th at 228 (+15) while Alika Bell tied for 70th at 236 (+23) after shooting an 80 on Saturday.
