SAN FRANCISCO -- University of San Francisco men's head basketball coach
Rex Walters has announced Montray Clemons, a 6-7, 235-pound forward currently enrolled at Pensacola (Fla.) State College, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at USF.
Clemons will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited to add Montray to our 2014 recruiting class," said USF head coach
Rex Walters. "Tray will give us a big, strong, athletic and skilled post presence that we are in need of next year. I love that Tray has proven himself in the classroom and on the basketball floor. He can guard multiple positions and will give us a dose of toughness.
"We definitely improved our roster today with his signing and we want to help Tray achieve his goals both on and off the court."
Clemons averaged 7.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and shot 52.3 percent from the field in 15 games this past season at Pensacola State College. He scored a season-high 21 points against Wallace State Community College-Hanceville on Nov. 29, one of his four double-figure scoring games on the season.
Clemons began his collegiate career at DePaul University. He sat out the 2011-12 season after rupturing the patella tendon in his left knee during DePaul's "Blue Madness" event on Oct. 14. He averaged 1.3 points (25 total) and 1.1 rebounds in 19 appearances as a redshirt freshman during the 2012-13 season and scored a season high five points against Georgetown on Feb. 20, 2013.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Clemons attended Polytechnic High School and Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte, N.C., where he averaged 20 points and 15 rebounds during the 2010-11 season.
