SAN FRANCISCO –– Tynan Maguire, a Carmel, Calif. native, has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend the University of San Francisco, announced by head men's tennis coach Pablo Pires de Almeida on Wednesday.
Maguire, 18, attended the North Monterey County Center for Independent Study and will join the Dons in January 2016 where he will have four years of tennis eligibility.
"Ty will be a great addition to our program," Pires de Almeida said. "He brings a lot of positive energy and upside to his game. Ty's parents, Rocky and Margaret, have a rich history in tennis. Rocky was a former world-ranked tennis player and the coach of Peanut Louie Harper, a San Francisco tennis legend."
As a member of the Beach and Tennis Club in Pebble Beach, Maguire was coached by Kie Foreman, the Director of Tennis and Bill Quario, the Head Tennis Professional. Rocky also provided valuable instruction to Ty as he worked his way through the Northern California Jr. Circuit.
Maguire and the Dons will open up the spring season on Jan. 15 against Utah in Hawaii. West Coast Conference play will get underway on Feb. 20 against Pacific at the California Tennis Club.
