Nate Renfro, a 6-7, 175 lb. forward from Tucson, Ariz., has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at the University of San Francisco next season.
Â
Renfro, who attends Sahuaro High School in Tucson, averaged 16.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and shot 45 percent from the field as a senior for the Cougars under head coach Jim Henry. Over his three-year varsity career, which spanned 73 games, Renfro averaged 11.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and shot 48 percent from the floor. He was named to "The Five" Boys Division II All-Stars by AllSportsTucson.com, was a first-team All-Southern Arizona selection by the Arizona Daily Star and earned first team all-section honors by AZSports360.com.
Â
Considered one of the most versatile players in Southern Arizona, Renfro started his high school career as a 5-9 point guard on Sahuaro's freshman team but transitioned to small forward on the varsity level following a tremendous growth spurt. An excellent student, he was ranked No. 1 in his class with a 4.0 grade point average as a junior.
Â
"We are excited to announce the signing of Nate Renfro," said USF head coach
Rex Walters. "Nate is a young man who has done a great job in the classroom and on the court. His ability to shoot, pass, post up and slash to the basket will definitely add another dimension to our team. I look forward to watching Nate develop as a student, athlete and young man."
Â
Renfro will be joined by Dont'e Reynolds (F, 6-7; Kinston, NC / Odessa College), Cedric Wright (F, 6-6; Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / Dillard HS), Matthew McCarthy (F, 6-9; Melbourne, Australia / Xavier College / Waverly Falcons), Marquill Smith (G, 6-4; Miami, Fla. / Miami Christian HS) and Ronnie Boyce (G, 6-4; Oklahoma City, OK / Connors State) as newcomers on next year's squad.
