Freshman
Nate Renfro takes the Dons Spotlight, in this highlighted vignette from the episode. The 6-7 forward from Tucson, Ariz., recalls his decision to come to USF, and the connection he has to the city, staff and team that brought him to California.
"You want high skill kids – kids that can play the game of basketball, who love the game of basketball," noted assistant coach
Sundance Wicks. "And then you want high motor kids with an internal grit and a 'want to' to get better. They beauty of that is that Nate's grit and want to carries over to into all three phases."
After a roller coaster journey that got him to the Hilltop, he is on an upward trajectory for the Dons, contributing 4.8 points on .508 shooting and 3.5 rebounds a game thus far in his first year for the Green and Gold. Beyond basketball, Renfro is working hard in the classroom to build on his 4.0 high school grade point average as he navigates the rigorous studies at USF.
"I think he's really going to be a guy that maximizes everything that this University can offer him in terms of an education, in terms of playing," said associate head coach
Frank Allocco. "I just love what I see in him, and he has a thirst for greatness and he's totally committed to being a great man both on and off the court."
