One of college basketball's most storied programs, USF has won two NCAA Championships (1955 and '56), one National Invitation Tournament title (1949, 15 regular season conference championships and one WCC Tournament title (1998). A total of 36 USF players have been selected in the NBA Draft, including nine first round selections. USF players and coaches have combined to capture 31 NBA Championships, the most among any team in NCAA history. Former players Bill Russell, K.C. Jones, Jim Brovelli and Fred Scolari have spent time as NBA head coaches. USF is represented in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame by players Bill Russell and K.C. Jones along with legendary coaches Pete Newell and Phil Woolpert.

Tradition Talk connects USF's rich basketball past with present day through a series of conversations between current and former players and coaches.

In our first segment of Tradition Talk, first-year head coach Kyle Smith and former Dons' standout, longtime coach and current broadcaster Jim Brovelli discuss a wide variety of topics relating to USF Basketball, such as coaching on the Hilltop, former players such as Joe Ellis, Ollie Johnson, Orlando Smart, to name a few, and the impact USF has had on their lives. Brovelli also gives sage advice to Smith about building a program as the Dons prepare for their 2016-17 season opener one week from tonight against Illinois-Chicago.
