Sophomore forward
Nate Renfro has been named captain for USF's men's basketball team for the 2016-17 season, head coach
Kyle Smith announced today.

Renfro, a native of Tucson, Ariz., was a unanimous selection for this honor in a vote of the players and coaching staff.

"Nate embodies everything the USF basketball program strives for," said Smith. "He has an outstanding attitude, work ethic and excels in the classroom as well as in the community. We could not be more proud to have someone of such high character represent this historic program."

USF opens the 2016-17 season this Friday night against Illinois-Chicago. Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m. and the game will be preceded by the USF-Sacramento State women's game which gets underway at 6:00 p.m. Both games mark the USF coaching debuts of
Kyle Smith and
Molly Goodenbour. As part of the evening's festivities, USF's 2016 WCC Women's Championship banner will be unveiled in between games of the doubleheader.
