Four Women Earn WCC All-Academic Distinction

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco junior Rachel Howard was tapped to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, announced today by the league offices.

An all-academic honorable mention selection a year ago, Howard holds the highest gpa on the 10-woman all-academic squad. The kinesiology major maintains a 3.75 grade point average, all while holding court as a sharpshooter for the USF offense.

A deadly threat from the outside, Howard stands in fourth in the WCC in 3-point percentage hitting 39.3 percent of her attempts from distance. Last night, the Berkeley, Calif., native went off for a career-high 29 points on 10-of-12 shooting, and a 6-of-7 effort from three as the Dons dominated Pepperdine, 99-75.

A trio of Dons earned honorable mention status for their work in the classroom. Redshirt sophomore Kalyn Simon holds a 3.86 gpa in her work toward a degree in international studies with a concentration in environment and development. Michaela Rakova, sophomore forward from Ivanka pri Dunaji, Slovakia, keeps a 3.65 gpa in her psychology studies, and fellow second-year player Anna Seilund has a 3.47 gpa studying organizational behavior and leadership.

To be eligible for the all-academic squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least at 3.20 cumulative GPA while also being a significant contributor to her team.
