Final Team and Individual ResultsROSEVILLE, Calif. – It was a double victory for USF today at the Sacramento State Invitational held at the Sierra View Country Club in Roseville.
The Dons earned their second win of the season with an 18-stroke victory over Nevada while sophomore
Vanessa Ha earned the individual title with a two-hole playoff for her second victory of the season.
Â
USF shot a team score of 295 (+7) on Tuesday to cement its second win of the 2015-16 campaign following its triumph at the Rose City Intercollegiate in late September. Nevada (907), Santa Clara (908), Sacramento State (916) and Northern Colorado (919) rounded out the top five in the 15-team event.
Â
Ha defeated Northern Colorado's Amanda Myers in a two-hole playoff for her second win of the season. The two golfers tied for the 54-hole lead at 220 (+4) but the USF sophomore claimed the title with a clutch up-and-down for par on the second playoff hole while Myers three-putted from 25 feet. Ha's other title came at the Rose City Intercollegiate in September.
Â
"I'm very happy for Vanessa," said head coach
Sarah Glynn. "She was very consistent as usual over 54 holes and made a great swing on 17 that set her up nicely for a birdie to get into a playoff. She has a tremendous short game and it really showed on the final playoff hole."
Â
Myers shot a final round 72 to overtake first round leader
Alison Lillie of USF. With Myers in the clubhouse, Ha earned a share of the lead with a birdie on the par-3 17th hole after hitting her tee shot to within five feet. She missed a 25-foot birdie putt on 18 which would have given her the title outright.
Â
Ha is one of four Dons to finish in the top-10. Lillie, who held a one-stroke lead on the field at the 36-hole mark of the tournament, slipped to third place following a final round 77 that left her at 222 (+6) for the tournament. It was her best tournament showing since her fourth place showing at the 2014 Rose City Intercollegiate.
Â
"Alison had a tremendous tournament," said Glynn. "Outside of one round at BYU, she has been playing very steady golf for us this spring. You can see her confidence grow with each and every tournament."
Â
Freshman
Mabel Wong shot a final round 73 to move four spots up the leaderboard into a tie for fourth place at 224 (+8). Wong's steady scorecard consisted of one birdie, two bogeys and 15 pars.
Â
Senior
Clare Sorensen jumped 25 spots into a tie for ninth place at 227 (+11) following a final round of 71. Playing in her hometown, Sorensen started her round with 10 straight pars and went to 2-under on her round following birdies on 11 and 13. After making her lone bogey on the par-3 17th, Sorensen pared 18 to finish with a 71, her lowest round of the season.
Â
"Clare bounced back very nicely today," said Glynn. "What a great round – a senior performance. Hopefully that will give her some momentum heading into Silverado and the WCC Championships."
Â
Emily Laskin, a native of nearby Elk Grove, tied for 13th place with a 13-over score of 229. The sophomore was even par after her first 10 holes but played her last eight in five over par and settled for a final round score of 77.
Â
Kimberly Liu, playing as an individual, shot a final round 79 and tied for 54th place at 242 (+26).
Â
USF will return to action on Sunday, April 3 when the Dons join a strong field at the Silverado Showdown in Napa.
