The USF men's basketball team will open up the 2016 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic with a matchup against Utah on Dec. 22 on ESPNU.

The Dons will join Tulsa, Stephen F. Austin, San Diego State, Southern Miss, Illinois State and host Hawai'i in competition.

The multi-day, destination event will feature 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracketed-tournament format. Six of the 12 matchups, including the championship game, will be showcased on ESPN2. ESPNU will carry four games, and two will be exclusive to ESPN3.

Entering its eighth year, the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic will again be played at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, where it has become a holiday tradition on the island of O'ahu.

USF last competed in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in 2012, when the Dons faced San Diego State, Ole Miss and East Tennessee State.

Previous tournament champions of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic include USC (2009), Butler (2010), Kansas State (2011), Arizona (2012), Iowa State (2013), George Washington (2014) and Oklahoma (2015).

The remainder of the USF men's basketball schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
