USF - University of San Francisco or You Stay Forever? What is it about our school that creates such great passion and devotion from its sons and daughters?

The University of San Francisco Tuesday Testimonials tell that story in the words of the special men and women who make the Hilltop such an amazing place.

Jim Brovelli left an indelible mark on the West Coast Conference and at USF as a student-athlete and head coach, and now as a color commentator for the Dons.

The San Francisco native and point guard for USF from 1961-64, Brovelli helped the Dons to a 41-14 record, two WCAC conference titles and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in his final two seasons on the Hilltop. After spending time as an assistant coach under his former coach and mentor Pete Peletta, Brovelli was named head coach at San Diego, and he left the Toreros' program as the school's all-time winningest coach.

Brovelli returned to his alma mater for the 1985-86 season to usher in a new era of Dons basketball, posting back-to-back winning seasons after reviving the basketball program at USF. After departing the Dons following the 1994-95 season, Brovelli spent time coaching in the NBA and CBA before taking a seat on the USF sidelines once again as broadcaster and analyst.

"USF really gave me a great opportunity … it all started because USF gave me a great foundation," recalls Brovelli. "It's so special because you are carrying on and continuing in the great tradition. I grew up here in the city and when I was in grammar school and high school what we would do is listen to the radio with the great Bill Russell years when they won 60 in a row and two NCAA championships, and then so many other championships along the way. You felt a part of this university. …  When you put on that jersey of USF it's more than just the university – you're representing the entire city. That's exciting, and that was all part of my development and being proud of being a USF alum."
