Dons Ready for Hornet Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The San Francisco track and field team brings its largest contingent of the season up to Sacramento to participate in the Hornet Invitational on Saturday.

The host site of the 2014 and upcoming 2017 USA National Championships, the Dons will race at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium. USF brings a core of sprinters, middle distance runners and javelin competitors to the meet. For the men, school record holder in the 800 and 1,500 meters, Hugh Nicklason, laces up in the 800. Ryan Driscoll, who holds the USF best in the 3,000 and 3,000 steeplechase, will round the track in the 1,500 meters for the Dons.

On the women's side, sprinter Asaundra Dalton takes off in the 200 and 400 meters. Dalton, a redshirt junior from Detroit, Mich., is the Dons' program leader in both the 100 and 200 meter distances. One of USF's strongest events will again be a gem in Sacramento, the Dons put six on the starting line in the 1,500 meters. Five women - Elena Burkard, Kelsey Nielsen, Daryl Phill, Weronika Pyzik, and Tatjana Schulte – earn a place in Heat 1 with Magdalena Dias going off in Heat 2 in the afternoon.

In the early-goings of the outdoor season, the Dons have positioned themselves strongly on the West Region outdoor performance lists, with five student-athletes currently ranking in the top 20 in their respective events. The 1-2-3 performance of Isabelle Brauer, Emma Stahr and Neilsen in the 1,500 m at the Aggie Open has the trio in 4th, 5th and 8th in the West. Dalton's mark of 57.41 in the 400 m currently stands at No. 13, and Katoa Ahau's season-best hurl of 54.52 at the Cal Opener is 11th in the region in the javelin.
