SAN FRANCISCO - The top tandem for the San Francisco women's tennis team,
Emily Maxfield and
Genevieve McCloskey, have earned distinction as All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention, voted on by the league's coaches and announced by the conference offices today.
In their lone season on the court together, the freshman/senior duo made a mark with a 5-4 dual match record, sporting a 2-1 mark against West Coast Conference opponents. The pair helped USF to the team victory over Santa Clara on April 15 taking down Madison Clarke and Daniella Silva, 7-6(4). Last weekend, Maxfield and McCloskey also earned a win on Court 1 as they defeated San Diego's Daniela Morales and Gemma Garcia, 6-4.
Along with a solid spring, the women also enjoyed success in the fall tournament season, falling to eventual Battle in the Bay champions Paris Corley and Lauren Marker of Arizona in the semifinal round on the season-opening tournament. Maxfield and McCloskey twice advanced to the quarterfinals in tournament play at the Saint Mary's Fall Invite and the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.
The Dons finished the season with a 5-21 overall record, missing out on making the WCC Championship field.
