Vanessa Ha Qualifies for NCAA Regionals

Vanessa Ha, who recently finished fourth at the West Coast Conference Championships, has been selected as one of the six individual players to compete at the NCAA Women's Golf Regional in Athens, Georgia.

Ha will join Chieh Jessica Peng, Mississippi State; Laura Fuenfstueck, College of Charleston; Lisa Pettersson, East Carolina; Alexandra Farnsworth, Vanderbilt; and Anna Redding, Virginia as the individuals in the field at the Athens Regional, which runs from May 8-10 at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The three low individual players not affiliated with one of the team qualifiers will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Hills, Ill, which is outside of Chicago.

Ha, a first team All-West Coast Conference selection, played in seven of USF's nine events and recorded a team-best 74.1 stroke average. The junior posted three top-10 finishes at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic (9th), the BYU Entrada Classic (t-5th) and the WCC Championships (t-4th). She fired a 6-under 66 in the third round of the Silverado Showdown on April 22, which was the lowest round by a USF golfer this season.

"Vanessa is just hitting her stride," said USF head coach Sarah Glynn. "She is playing so consistent right now and I think she learned a lot about her game in her last two tournaments. She has simplified her course management which has resulted in a direct drop of her scores. If she continues on this path, she might be playing more golf later in May."

The Athens Regional field features six top-25 teams. No. 2 Alabama is the top seed, followed by the No. 8 Bulldogs, No. 11 Northwestern, No. 14 Arizona, No. 19 Baylor and No. 22 Wake Forest. The remainder of the competing teams are Auburn, Augusta, Clemson, Kansas State, Michigan State, North Carolina, North Florida, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Tennessee, Troy and UCF.
