A total of 41 USF student-athletes will participate in spring commencement ceremonies over the weekend inside St. Ignatius Church, as the University celebrates the academic accomplishments of more than 2,000 graduating students from May 18-20.
Speakers for the various ceremonies include the Most Reverend Robert W. McElroy of San Diego (School of Education); Karl W. Eikenberry, Ambassador and Lieutenant General, Retired, U.S. Army (Undergraduate Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences); Carey Elizabeth Perloff, Artistic Director, American Conservatory Theater (Undergraduate Arts and Social Studies Students in the College of Arts and Sciences); Maureen Orth, Journalist and Founder of the Marina Orth Foundation (Graduate Students in the College of Arts and Sciences); Rev. Jon D. Fuller, S.J., attending physician, Center for Infectious Diseases, Boston Medical Center; the Honorable Xavier Becerra, Attorney General of the State of California (School of Law); Regina Benjamin, M.D., Founder and CEO of Bayou Clinic, Inc. and the 18th U.S. Surgeon General (Business Administration); and Mark Buell, President, San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission (School of Management – Graduate).
Graduation weekend began on Thursday afternoon with a Commencement Mass in St. Ignatius Church, where the Most Reverend Robert W. McElroy, Bishop of San Diego served as homilist. The School of Education (Graduate) held its commencement ceremony on Thursday evening, while Undergraduate Humanities and Sciences, Arts and Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences (Graduate) and the School of Nursing held its commencement ceremonies on Friday. The School of Management and School of Law will celebrate its graduates on Saturday.
Members of the athletic administration staff and coaches of various teams were on hand to greet the graduating student-athletes and their families on Welch Lawn outside of St. Ignatius Church following the ceremonies.
