LOS ANGELES – The San Francisco track and field team rounded out its productive weekend with yet another improvement in the school record books on Saturday at the Oxy Invitational. Senior
Ryan Driscoll shaved seven second off his previous best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to improve his USF record in the event, one of five personal bests recorded at Jack Kemp Stadium.
Driscoll's record time of 8:50.87 earned him fourth in his heat as he crossed two seconds behind Dominican record holder Alvaro Abreu. The mark for Driscoll currently rates 15th in the West, with teammate
Mohamed Aziz sitting in 33rd on the NCAA qualifying lists.
Two men turned in personal bests in the 5,000 meters, as
Ben Alcock finished 11th in his heat with a time of 14:05.06, the second-fastest 5K for a Don this season.
Caleb McClain's time of 14:39.63 also stands as a personal benchmark as he took sixth in his heat.
The 5,000 meter distance was also a strength for the women, as
Isabelle Brauer raced to a sixth place overall finish in her first outdoor 5K of the year. Her time of 16:27.61 rates as a personal best, nearly five seconds faster than her previous best. The Dons also took to the track in the shorter distances with
Emma Stahr taking seventh in her heat with a two-lap time of 2:09.93 to earn a new collegiate best in the 800 meters.
The racing at the Oxy Invitational wraps up a prolific weekend for the Dons where
Charlotte Taylor ran the NCAA's fastest 5,000 meters of the season on Friday at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Next on the docket, USF hosts the West Coast Last Chance meet on Saturday in the last bid for competitors to earn NCAA qualifying marks.
Currently, the Dons have a dozen athletes sitting within or near the 48-person qualifying threshold per event.
