As we take you through our five favorite moments from the hardwood during the 2016-17 season,
Rachel Howard comes in at No. 4. With her first three-point attempt – and swish – at Pacific on Jan. 14, she became the 22nd woman in school history to reach the milestone.
The senior from Berkeley, Calif., still had work to be done as conference rolled on, leading her team to a fourth-place regular season finish in West Coast Conference action, the Dons' highest league finish since 2002-03 and their best conference record since 2001-02.
Howard was hot from the field all year, and climbed to 10th in the all-time scoring record books tallying 1,345 points. A sharpshooter from distance, she finds herself second in career three-pointers made (186) sinking 38.0 percent of her attempts.
USF's senior squad leader led the Dons in numerous categories in her final year suiting up for the Green and Gold. Howard closed the year in the NCAA's top 100 in six offensive categories, and led the WCC in points per game (18.1) and three-point percentage (38.9).
Rewarded for her hard work in the gym, Howard
inked a professional contract to play with Luxembourg's AB Contern in July. While Rachel won't be at the forefront of the 2017-18 Dons squad, a bevy of returners anchored by seniors
Michaela Rakova,
Anna Seilund and
Kalyn Simon are prepared to yet again Rock the Hilltop in resounding fashion.
