SAN FRANCISCO – The West Coast Conference announced its preseason poll and All-WCC teams today. The University of San Francisco women were picked to finish second in 2017.
USF, currently ranked No. 10 in the USTFCCCA national poll, were a close second to the No. 9 ranked BYU Cougars who were picked by the league's coaches who were selected to finish first by collecting 74 points. Although the Dons were picked second, they received the most first-place votes (seven) and a total of 68 points. Following the Dons in the rankings were the defending WCC champions Portland with 60 points.
Last year, the Dons took third at both the WCC Championships and the NCAA West Regional to earn a chance at nationals. There, the Dons finished sixth.
On the men's side, the Dons were picked to finish fourth after finishing 2016 in third at the WCC Championships. USF collected 45 points, being just edged out by Gonzaga (47) for the second year in a row. The top two spots went to the perennial WCC powerhouses No. 6 BYU and No.14 Portland, who were selected one-two respectively.
"We are have a ton of confidence in both of our teams and what we will be able to accomplish this season," said USF head coach
Helen Lehman-Winters. "We are excited to host the conference championships on October 27, and at this time, we will let the results sort out the true team standings." ?
Two of the top performers for USF were selected for individual Preseason All-WCC honors, and both participated at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2016.

Weronika Pyzik were named on the preseason All-WCC team.
Both the Men's and Women's teams started off their seasons with decisive victories at the 25
th USF Invitational, with
Weronika Pyzik and
Mohamed Aziz taking first place in their respective races. Next up for the Dons is a trip to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 23.
