Feb. 2, 2006

This weekend the USF Rifle Team put its best foot forward against the 5th ranking team in the country. While UNR won the match, the USF team left its mark and raised the bar for the up coming sectionals match.

The USF Gold team competed against the Nevada Blue team in small bore rifle on Saturday and air rifle on Sunday. Nevada lead the match with a 2280 out of a possible 2400 with USF close behind with a 2120. The next day the Wolf Pack won again in air rifle with a 2334 against the Don's 2226.

The team had three personal best records in both Small bore rifle and air rifle. This was lead by the team's high shooter Sophomore Katie Van Bogaert with a 567 out of a possible 600 in air rifle and 560 out of a possible 600 in small bore. The team captain Junior James Han had bests with a 557 in air rifle and 541 in small bore. Sophomore Danien Scipio beat his previous records with a 536 in air rifle and 497 in small bore. Along with these impressive records, Sophomore Ally Coats made her début with the team.

The team's next match is Feb 10-13 at UNR. This sectional match is the only match of the year that determines the national ranking of both the teams and individuals. In anticipation, everyone is working very hard to stake a claim among the national elite.
