USF Track And Field Takes On Deep Field At Triton Invitational

The USF track and field teams will compete in the highly competitive Triton Invitational Friday afternoon and all day Saturday, in San Diego California.
Competing on Friday for the Dons, in the men's pole vault, will be school record holder Alex McIntosh, starting at 3 p.m. The rest of the squad will compete Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
Senior Renee Stribling, who set a new school record last week at the Jackie Joyner Kersee Invite in the 1500m, will get the chance to compete against a very competitive field which includes Allie Bohannan from UCLA, who was second in the 2007 National Indoor Championships. Junior Jennifer Hartford, who has set back-to-back personal records in the 1500m and 5000m her last two competitions, will also compete in the women's 1500m race with Stribling.
Sophomore Michelle Born will make her 2007 debut in the 5000m race and school records holders Lucy Miller (3000m steeplechase) and Briana Junior (triple jump) will represent the Dons in those respective events.
On the men's side, sophomore Alex Nelson, who also set a new 1500m school record last weekend in Los Angeles, will lead the Dons in the 1500m, where he will be joined by juniors Kenny Sparks and Ryan Courtwright. Nelson and Sparks will also run in the 800m race, where they will be joined by freshmen Micael Smith and Byron Williams.
In the throws, the Dons will have freshmen Alex Irani and A.J. Fabrizio competing in the shot put, with Irani also throwing in the discus competition. The Triton Invitational field will be the deepest the track and field team has seen all year, with top teams all throughout the state of California competing.
