USF Track And Field Set To Compete In California Collegiate Championship Friday And Saturday

The USF track and fields teams will send a group of middle and long distance runners to the California Collegiate Track Championships Friday and Saturday at UC Berkeley. Competing for the Dons on Sunday, in the prestigious Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, will be senior Renee Stribling.
The California Collegiate Championships will feature some of the top teams throughout the country with the University of Florida, University of Oregon and Cal all ranked in the top 25 for track and field.
Running for the Dons in the women's 5,000m race in Berkeley will be freshman Mary Verran, sophomore Michelle Born and juniors Jennifer Hartford and Elizabeth Noey. Junior Jacob Marx will run in the men's 5,000m race at 7:30 p.m. Competing for the Dons on Saturday in the men's 1,500m will be sophomore Alex Nelson, who set the school record for that event earlier this season. Freshman Micael Smith will also compete for the Dons on Saturday in the men's 800m race.
In the Cardinal Invitational, Stribling, who also set a school record earlier this season in the women's 1,500m, will look to improve on her time of 4:31.00 in one of the most competitive meets in the country.
