The USF Track and Field teams traveled to UC Davis today to compete in the Aggie Open in their third meet of the season.
Senior Renee Stribling finished third in both the 800m (2:16.82) and the 1500m (4:33.64). Her 1500 meter time bettered her previous personal best by almost four seconds. "Renee ran impressively in both of her races today," said head coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "I am especially pleased with how she ran in the 1500. Her pace was very even and she finished strong. She executed well in a strong field and clearly showed she is capable of competing at an elite level as the season progresses."
Also running well for the women's team were juniors Jennifer Hartford and Elizabeth Noey in their first 5000 meters of the season. Hartford, who won the 3000m last week at the Stanford Quad meet, ran a personal record 17:43.82, which was good enough for second place in the race. Noey, who had a personal record last week in the 3000m, missed her personal record in the 5k by eight seconds with a time of 18:18.71, good enough for fifth place.
"Both Jen and Liz ran very strong races today and are way ahead of where they were last year at this time," said Lehman-Winters. "Jen was very tough in the later stages of the race and is capable of running much faster when she gets in a deeper more competitive field. Liz beat some very good WCC foes and continues to race aggressively."
On the men's side, Kenny Sparks (4:01.18), Alex Nelson (4:02.25), and Ryan Courtwright (4:02.97) ran solid races in the 1500m and finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
In the throws, freshman A.J. Fabrizio had a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 13.33m, which beat his personal record by .75m. Also achieving a personal record for the Dons was freshman Alex Irani in the discus with a throw of 34.15m.
Next up for the Dons is the Hornet Open in two weeks in Sacramento. For full results from today's competition please click on the link above.
