Junior Jen Hartford Sets School Record At First Day Of Independent Conference Championship.

USF Track and Field competed in the first day of the Independent Conference Track Championship Saturday at the Woody Wilson Track in Davis, CA.
Junior Jennifer Hartford finished fourth for the Dons in the women's 10,000m final with a new school record of 36:46.01, eclipsing the old school record, set two years ago, by five seconds. Also setting new personal records in the women's 10,000m were junior Elizabeth Noey (38:31.50) and freshman Mary Verran (39:15.49).
In preliminary action Saturday, sophomore Alex Nelson and senior Renee Stribling continued their strong seasons when they both qualified for Sundays finals in the 1500m, with Stribling also qualifying for the finals in the 800m. Also qualifying with Stribling for the fnals in the womens 1500m was freshman Michelle Born, who set a new personal record with a time of 4:43.59.
In the men's 800m, junior Kenny Sparks and freshman Micael Smith both qualified for Sundays final, with Sparks finishing second in his preliminary heat and Smith finishing third in his heat.
Along with Hartford, other Dons that scored points in Saturdays finals were junior Lucy Miller, who finished seventh in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:23.03, and freshman Alex Irani, who finished eighth in the men's discus competition with a personal record of 38.63m.
