Dons Nab Four Titles On Day 2 Of SFSU Invitational

(San Francisco) - The USF Track and Field team continued its strong spring season Saturday, added four individual titles, two school records and 11 personal bests at the San Francisco State University Invitational. Friday night, San Francisco's Alex Delgadillo won the men's javelin, providing the Dons with five individual titles at the two-day event.
Michelle Born led the way thanks to grabbing the title in the 1500m. Born dominated the race after the opening 800m, and posted a personal best-mark of 4:35.81.
Nicole Bowler continued her outstanding spring season, remaining undefeated, nabbing the 800m title for the Green and Gold, bettering a four-year old school record and setting a personal best with a time of 2:12.33.
In on the field on the women's side, Alanna Nulph bettered her personal best and USF record in the shot put with a mark of 13.33m. Also in the field, Oliver Kirkeby earned the men's shot title with a 14.18 mark.
Other notable finishes by Dons include strong runs by Will Marquardt, Jesus Romo, Steven Garboden, and Byron Williams. Marquardt, Romo and Garboden all competed in the 1500 with finishes of second (3:56.93), third (3:57.46) and sixth (4:00.55), respectively. In the men's 800m, Williams narrowly missed the title, finishing second with a mark of 1:54.40. The champion, John Laughlin of Santa Clara, finished with a time of 1:54.34.
USF will take to the track again next weekend at the JJK/Rafner Johnson Invitational in Westwood, Calif.
