Bowler Earns Second NCAA Qualifying Time

(Davis, Calif.) - Nicole Bowler, of the USF Track and Field team, posted her second NCAA Regional qualifying time of the season Saturday, finishing the 1500 with a time of 4:26.72. With the feat, Bowler has now posted qualifying marks in the 1500 and the 3K steeple chase, marking the second female Don to meet the qualifying standards in program history.
Joining Bowler with notable performances on the women's side Saturday at the Woody Wilson Classic were Michelle Born, Briana Junior, Sophia Ditty and Mary Verran. Born and Junior each posted top-five finishes in their respective events, while Ditty and Verran both ran personal bests in the 5K. In the 1500, Born finished fifth with a mark of 4:35.03. Junior placed fourth in the triple jump with a 11.34 mark. Ditty and Verran finished the 5000 with personal best times of 17:52.10 and 18:05.16, respectively.
On the men's side, Byron Willams and Ravi Amarawansa, as well as Colin Hopkins ran personal bests in the 1500. Alex Nelson, who is redshirting this season, won the race, running unattached with a time of 3:53.09. Williams finished with a time of 3:53.46, Amarawansa 3:54.77 and Hopkins a time of 4:00.54.
Devin Hopkins placed fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:57.91, while Thomas Estrada and Tyler Alvarez paced the Dons in the 5000. Estrada finished fifth with a 15:09.00 mark, while Alvarez finished sixth in 15:12.02.
San Francisco will return to action next weekend as it competes at the Mt. Sac Invitational Thursday - Saturday, the Bryan Clay Invite Friday and the Long Beach Invitational Saturday.
