Two Dons Compete in the Final Day of the NCAA Track and Field Regional
May 30, 2009
(Eugene, OR) - Sophomores Jesus Romo and Nicole Bowler competed in the final day of the NCAA Track and Field Regional at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene.
Just the second male in USF history to qualify for the NCAA Regional meet, Romo ran the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday, finishing 16th out of 32 entrants with a time of 9:12.03. He initially qualified for the event when he broke a school record at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on April 25 in Berkeley with a 9:06.38.
Bowler, who was the first ever Don to qualify from a prelim into a final, finished the 1500m in 4:32.68 (12th). She had originally qualified for the 3000m steeplechase earlier in the season, but did not start the event on Saturday.
Head coach Helen Lehman-Winters had this to say on the final day of the meet, "It was great for our kids to gain competitive experience here. With another year of development, we will return and be much more prepared to be effective at this level."
This concludes the 2009 Track and Field season.
