Krchova Sets USF Record In Opener

(Seattle, Wash.) - The University of San Francisco track and field team opened the spring season at the Husky Classic Friday and Saturday. At the event in Seattle, Eva Krchova set a USF record in the 3000m, while Hillary Kigar posted a big personal best time in the 5000m.
"It was good to get the track season rolling," commented head coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "We had some solid openers and look forward to the entire team competing at Stanford in a couple of weeks."
Krchova ran a school record 9:40.94 in the 3000m, finished third in the first heat, 30th overall. The previous record of 9:54.11, set by former USF standout Michelle Born.
Kigar ran in the second Heat of the 5000m, finishing 10th with a mark of 16:57.71. Overall, Kigar posted a 28th place finish. The time set a personal best mark, knocking nearly a minute off of her best time from last season. Heather Zytkewicz also raced in the event, finishing 15th in the heat, 38th overall, with a mark of 17:12.95.
On the men's side, Alex Nelson and Devin Hopkins competed for USF in the 3000 and mile, respectively. Both finished in the top -30 of their respective races.
