Bowler, Dons Earn National Academic Recognition

(New Orleans) - Nicole Bowler of the USF Track and Field team has been named to the 2009 Division I All-Academic Track and Field team, as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Bowler was one of 531 student-athletes, representing 147 Division I institutions named to the women's team. In addition, both the USF men's and women's teams have been named Track and Field All-Academic Teams by the USTFCCCA.
Bowler enjoyed a successful sophomore season for the Dons in 2009, setting four school records, qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in two events while also winning numerous competitions.
During the spring, the Loomis native set USF records in the 800m, 1500m, mile and 3000m steeplechase. Her marks in the 1500 (4:26.72) and 3000m steeplechase (10:43.93) earned her NCAA berths, where she was a finalist in the 1500m. She also posted titles in the 1500m at the Cal Opener and the Cal Nevada Championships, while also winning the Aggie Open 3000m and the 800m at the SFSU Invite with a personal best time of 2:12.33.
The Dons' men's team earned All-Academic Team status thanks to a team cumulative GPA of 3.262, the sixth highest GPA in Division I. The women posted a 3.050 GPA to earn a spot on the list.
