Al Berrin

Al Berrin is in his first year as an assistant coach at the University of San Francisco and will assist with both the track and cross country programs on the Hilltop. A veteran coach with years of service in the Bay Area, Berrin will handle primarily sprint and field events under the direction of USF head coach Helen Lehman-Winters.
"Al possesses a wealth of coaching knowledge and experience in multiple track and field events. His passion and enthusiasm for the sport are a perfect fit for USF as we continue to build the strength of our program," said Lehman-Winters.
With 28 years of coaching at the prep and amateur ranks, Berrin owns a broad range of experience with athletes from high school, college, and the elite ranks. He most recently worked with the Nike Farm Team (2004-06), while coaching at St. Ignatius Prep (2003-06) in the City. Previously, he coached at South San Francisco High School (1994-2003) and Skyline College (1991-94).
"I am thrilled to be working at the University of San Francisco," said Berrin. It's a dream for me to help build the sprint and field events to rival the success USF has enjoyed recently in the endurance events."
Berrin holds USATF Level II Certification in Sprints, Hurdles, Relays, and Endurance, an M.A.P.E in Administration, and also served as a USATF Coaching Education Instructor. Hr graduated from San Francisco State with a BA in History in 1968, received a MA from San Francisco State in Elementary Education in 1979, and earned his MA in PE Administration from St. Marys University in 1991. He currently resides in San Francisco.
