(Greely, Colorado) - USF Track opened up the 2006 Independent Track and Field Championships with a solid performance Friday at Nottingham Field. It was a good day for freshman Jennifer Gross, who competed in the first 10K of her career and four Dons advanced to the women's 1500 finals.

"Jen turned in a solid performance in her first 10K of her career," USF head coach Helen Lehman-Winters said. "I am pleased with how she approached the challenge of running a 10K in both a strong field and at altitude."

Gross placed seventh with a time of 40:58, while sophomore Katie Matl placed sixth in heat one of the 1500 at 5:06.78, while freshman Ashton LeSieur was second in heat two at 5:01.19, just in front of junior Renee Stribling in third at 5:01.24. Freshman Michelle Born came in fifth in the second heat at 5:02.94.

Sophomore Lucy Miller placed seventh in the steeplechase at 12:13.19 and USF women did not advance to Saturday's 800 final.
