The USF track and field teams will compete in their final meet of the season this Saturday and Sunday in the Independent Conference Championship at UC Davis.

The Independent Conference Championship attracted several talented teams from across the country this year. Participating will be Cal State Bakersfield, Central Arkansas, Chicago State, New Jersey Tech, North Dakota State, who won both the men's and women's title last year, Northern Colorado, USF, WCC rivals Santa Clara and Portland, South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and the host Aggies.

Top performers for the Dons this season have been middle distance standouts Alex Nelson, a sophomore, and senior Renee Stribling. Both runners hold the school records in both the men's and women's 800 meter and 1500 meter races, with Nelson achieving both records this season, and Stribling capturing the 1500m this season after putting herself on top of the record book in the 800m during the 2005 season.

This weekend, Nelson and Stribling will compete in the 1500m, where they are both seeded fourth in the Independent Conference Championship. Joining the two record holders in the 1500m will be junior Kenny Sparks and sophomore Michelle Born. Sparks, who ranks one spot behind Nelson in the 1500m, will also compete in the 800m and 5000m races for the Dons.

Other top ranked Dons this weekend include school record holders Lucy Miller, a junior and freshman Briana Junior. Miller, who set the 3000m steeplechase record earlier this season, will enter the Conference Championship seeded sixth in the steeplechase. Junior will be seeded number two in the women's triple jump, an event she also set a school record in this season.

Competing for the Dons in the women's 10,000m race will be All-WCC first team cross country honoree Jennifer Hartford, along with fellow junior Elizabeth Noey and freshman Mary Verran.
