USF Cross Country Set to Compete in Hornet Jamboree

(San Francisco, CA) - University of San Francisco men's and women's cross country will send a partial squad to Sacramento this Saturday to compete in the Sacramento State Hornet Jamboree at Granite Regional Park. The rest of USF's squad will begin preperations for the Aztec Invitational on September 19.
Women's race: The 5k women's race will start at 9:15 AM. USF will run junior Christine Jowaiszas, sophomores Carly Holman and Hannah O'Neal, and freshmen Alice Baker and Sahar Bala.
Last season, the women's team finished first at the event, with Carly Holman finishing 36th in 19:05.
Men's race: The four mile men's race will begin at 9:45 AM. Juniors Joshua Horeled and Byron Williams, sophomores Tyler Alvarez, Steven Garboden, Colin Hopkins, Michael Barnes, and Thomas Estrada, and freshmen Adrian Rafiee and Jason Waldram will compete for the Dons.
In 2008, the men's team came in third. The top finisher also competing in the event this year is Thomas Estrada, who completed the race in 20:50 (14th). Joshua Horeled finished 18th in 20:54 and Michael Barnes ran a 21:07 (21st).
The field for the 2009 Jamboree includes men's and women's teams from Sacramento State, UC Davis, California, Fresno State, San Jose State, and Stanislaus State. The women's race will also include Nevada, Pacific, and Sonoma State.
Granite Regional Park is located on Ramona Road, directly off of Power Inn.
