Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at Doc Adams Invite

(Sacramento, CA) - San Francisco men's cross country finished third at the Doc Adams Invitational, hosted by Sacramento State on Saturday. The women didn't run a full team, but freshman Alice Baker placed second overall.
Men's 8k: Sophomore Colin Hopkins led the Dons on the day, finishing sixth in 25:49.4 and sophomore Michael Barnes came in right after in seventh in 26:00.0. Sophomore Tyler Alvarez also finished in the Top-10, coming in ninth in 26:08.3. Freshman Jason Waldram placed 15th in 26.38.6, and sophomore Steven Garboden finished 26th in 27:17.9.
USF (56) took third, behind UC Davis (47) and Santa Clara (42). The Dons defeated Saint Mary's, who took fourth (59). The overall winner was Mark Blucher from SMC in 25:13.4.
Women's 6k: Freshman Alice Baker had a career day, finishing second for the Dons in 21:53.2. The only other Dons runner in the event, sophomore Carly Holman placed 17th in 23:46.5.
Sacramento State (29) took first, followed by Cal State Bakersfield (41) and Saint Mary's (55). The overall winner was Kristina Holtz from Sacramento State in 21:49.3.
"Alice Baker ran a fantastic race, taking the lead in the final mile, but couldn't quite hold on for the win," said assistant coach Tom Kloos. "Regardless, she showed today that she is the caliber of runner capable of making an important contribution to this team in the future."
USF returns to action next Friday, competing in the San Francisco State Invitational at Golden Gate Park. The race begins at 4:00 PM.
