(San Francisco) – Both the men's and women's San Francisco cross country teams earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as announced by the organization.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.

USF's three-time defending West Coast Conference Champion women's squad posted a 3.40 team GPA, while the men's squad turned in a 3.22 GPA.

San Francisco was one of five West Coast Conference schools to have both the men's and women's squads capture all-academic honors, joining Brigham Young, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Portland and Santa Clara.

Last week, women's cross country runner Laura Suur became the first student-athlete in program history to ear individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. The junior from Jegova, Estonia was one of 104 women's cross country student-athletes across the nation to be named to the team.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2011.

Suur was one of just two student-athletes in the West Coast Conference to be named to the team. The other was Tara Erdmann from Loyola Marymount University.

Seven of the top ten finishing teams at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status. Of the 31 teams that participated in the national meet, 20 of those earned All-Academic status.
