Laura Haurte was hired as an assistant coach for the San Francisco track and field team in September of 2011.
Huarte’s primary responsibilities will be to handle the program’s field event athletes as well as the administrative duties of travel and community service.
“Laura is wonderful addition to our staff,” Lehman-Winters said. “She is bright and enthusiastic and brings with her competitive Division I experience. I believe that she can complement our strong distance program by effectively recruiting and developing field event athletes here at USF.”
Huarte graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2006 with degrees in Business Administration and Marketing. While at Notre Dame, she was a member of the track and field team where she specialized in both the pole vault and the javelin.
The Fighting Irish were the Big East conference champions in 2006, while Huarte was the Big East’s pole vault champion in 2004. She qualified for the Division I NCAA Track and Field All Mideast Region meet in 2006 and still holds the school’s female javelin record.
Huarte currently resides in Oakland, Calif.
