Dons Drop Pitchers' Duel To Fresno State, 2-1
FRESNO, Calif. – San Francisco was on the wrong end of a pitcher’s duel Thursday night at Beiden Field, dropping the first game of four to Fresno State, 2-1. Alex Balog was fantastic in his second straight start, allowing a single unearned run in 5.2 innings pitched. A throwing error and a wild pitch cost the Dons (7-7, 0-0 WCC), as the Bulldogs (6-7, 0-0 WAC) scored their only runs of the game on San Francisco miscues.

San Francisco took advantage of two miscues from Pacific, winning 10-2 Tuesday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond. A seven-run second inning and a three-run third gave the Dons (7-6, 0-0 WCC) all they would need, as USF scored in double-digits for the first time in 2012.

USF hosts the Pacific Tigers for a Tuesday matinee at 2:00 p.m. Andrew Pulido gets his second-ever start for the Green & Gold. From there, San Francisco travels to Fresno to face the Bulldogs in a four-game set. Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short Against No. 22 Cal Poly, 11-9
San Francisco’s four-run ninth inning rally came up short, as the Dons dropped their Sunday Aztec Invitational finale to Cal Poly by a score of 11-9. USF (6-6, 0-0 WCC) committed two errors in the top of the first inning leading to four Cal Poly runs and the Mustangs wouldn’t look back Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Dons went 1-3 in the Aztec Invitational due in large part to a poor defensive showing, as the Green & Gold committed 14 errors in just four games.

Dons Drop 6-1 Decision to Tournament Host San Diego State
San Francisco jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but eventually fell to tournament host San Diego State 6-1 on Saturday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Another error filled game saw the Dons commit four more miscues, bringing their season total to 16. Abe Bobb (2-1) was the tough luck loser for the Dons (6-5, 0-0 WCC), as the sophomore pitched well, but errors and well-placed hits from the Aztecs (6-6, 0-0 MWC) were the story of the game.

Giarratano Becomes San Francisco's All-Time Winningest Coach With 374th WCC Victory
San Francisco Head Coach Nino Giarratano became the university’s all-time winningest baseball coach with a 6-5 extra-inning victory over Northridge on Friday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Giarratano collected his 374th West Coast Conference win, surpassing Legend of The Hilltop, Dante Benedetti, for most wins in the program’s history. In addition, Giarratano now sits alone in sixth place on the all-time WCC coaching victories list.

Milwaukee scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal a victory from the grasp of San Francisco, 6-5, Thursday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Dons (5-4, 0-0 WCC) led 5-1 entering the final frame, but Jonathan Capasso’s three-run double off the right field wall gave the Panthers (3-5, 0-0 Horizon) a walk-off win.

BERKELEY, Calif. – San Francisco plated two runs in the top of the ninth, but came up just short, dropping the Tuesday tilt against California, 5-3. The Dons (5-3, 0-0 WCC) registered twice as many hits (14-7) as the Golden Bears (5-2, 0-0 Pac-12), but left 14 runners on base in front of 105 fans at Evans Diamond.

San Francisco completed the series sweep over Missouri with a 6-0 shutout behind Christian Cecilio in the Sunday finale. The freshman from Bellarmine College Prep tossed 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three. All told, the Dons (5-2, 0-0 WCC) three starting pitchers shutout the Tigers (2-4, 0-0 Big 12) across 18.1 innings in the three-game set.

Diamond Dons Welcome Big 12 Power Missouri For Three-Game Weekend Set
The Dons now prepare for their first-ever weekend showdown against Big 12 power Missouri, which marks the return of ex-Dons pithing coach Matt Hobbs. Hobbs served as the Diamond Dons pitching coach during the 2010 season, where his staff ranked fourth in the WCC in ERA. Missouri finished the 2011 season with a 27-32 record under head coach Tim Jamieson who is entering his 18th season at the helm for the Tigers.

Seven Nevada pitchers combined to limit San Francisco to three runs, as the Dons dropped their Tuesday afternoon tilt against the Wolf Pack, 7-3, at Benedetti Diamond. The Dons (2-2, 0-0 WCC) scored twice in the bottom of the first to take an early lead, but the Wolf Pack (3-1, 0-0 WAC) responded with three runs in the top of the third to take command.

Redshirt sophomore Abe Bobb was masterful in his second collegiate start as he led San Francisco past San Jose State, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at Blethen Field. Bobb went seven strong innings striking out four, and walking only one. The Denver, Colorado native settled in nicely in the later stages of the game, mixing location well, and getting first pitch strikes all afternoon.

Kyle Zimmer scattered two hits across five scoreless innings to lead San Francisco to a 3-1 victory over Missouri Friday afternoon at sun-soaked Benedetti Diamond. The junior right-hander struck out five Tigers (2-2) and walked none to help the Dons (3-2) to their first home win of the 2012 season. In his two starts this year, Zimmer has allowed just three hits in nine innings and has yet to allow a run, or surrender a walk.

Abe Bobb was masterful in his second straight start, throwing seven shutout innings to lead San Francisco to another 3-1 victory over Missouri at Benedetti Diamond on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Bobb (2-0) scattered four hits while striking out five and walking none. Bobb, just like Kyle Zimmer yesterday, didn’t allow a walk and has only surrendered one free pass this season in 14 innings of work. The Denver, Colorado native lowered his season ERA to a pristine 0.64.

The Dons begin the 2012 season on the road as they travel south to face the San Jose State Spartans in a split series. The Dons first game of the season has been rescheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday February 17. The venue has changed as well, from Municipal Stadium to Blethen Field, which is located on the San Jose State campus.
