Cal State Northridge pounded out 13 runs on 14 hits but still needed a two-out ninth inning RBI single from sophomore Ryan Haag to put away a San Francisco team that collected 18 hits on the day, 13-12 at Matador Field, Saturday.

It was not a good day to be a pitcher for either team with the two combining for 12 pitching changes. Matador closer Phil Polanco continues to impress, earning the win with one and third innings of scoreless ball that included four strikeouts.

The Northridge offense was led by newcomer Shaun Larkin who hit a fourth inning grand slam to help the Matadors recapture the lead with a ten-run inning. It was his second home run in as many games. The second baseman finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI.

Designated hitter Aaron McKenzie banged out a two-run home run and ended the day 2-for-3 with a walk. Senior first baseman Tim Arroyo collected two runs and an RBI while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two walks.

The Dons were led by right fielder Nick Tarbat who had an amazing day with three RBI and four runs while going 5-for-6 with a home run. Shortstop Armand Gaerian went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI while left fielder Joe Jacobitz had two RBI and a run while finishing 3-for-5 at the plate.

The game ended on a two-out ninth inning RBI single from Matador sophomore Ryan Haag that scored pinch runner Joe Ammiratto in a close play at home.

USF dropped to 0-2 with the win will look for their first win tomorrow with game time scheduled for 1 p.m. at Matador Field.
