Box Score

(Sacramento) - San Francisco scored first, but Cal Poly struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on two more in the sixth for a 5-1 non-conference victory in the consolation game of the 2004 River City Classic at Hornet Stadium. USF (2-6) managed just six hits against the Mustangs (13-4-1), who avenged an opening round 2-0 loss to San Francisco.

Senior outfielder Joe Jacobitz enjoyed another solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3, while sophomore designated hitter Stefan Gartrell went 1-for-4 and drove in USF's only run in the fourth. Senior shortstop Armand Gaerlan, senior first baseman Chris Genung and freshman pinch-hitter Blake Nelson collected hits for the Diamond Dons.

Junior right-hander T.J. Franco (1-1) suffered the loss for San Francisco, allowing five runs (three earned) off six hits and struck out four in 5.2 innings. Senior left-hander Brian Borgmann and freshman right-hander Ryan Muller held Cal Poly scoreless from there.

USF returns to action when they travel across the Bay Bridge for a Tuesday afternoon game at Cal. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Evans Diamond.
