Feb. 28, 2009
(Riverside, CA) - San Francisco baseball fell behind early as UC Riverside took the 8-2 victory at Riverside Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Dons (5-3) were out hit 12-8 by the Highlanders (5-2), but both teams left seven runners on base.
Senior left fielder again led the Dons at the plate, with two singles and a run scored. Kim now has at least one hit in each game USF has played in 2009. Junior catcher Ryan Lipkin, junior second baseman Robert Abel, junior pinch hitter Chris Dittmann, senior third baseman Dane Braunecker, sophomore first baseman Stephen Yarrow, and freshman designated hitter Matt Chavez each added one hit in the contest.
Riverside scored three runs in both the first and second, then added another in the third to take a very quick 7-0 lead. USF scored one in the fifth. Abel singled to short, moved to second on Braunecker's single to left, and scored on Chavez's single to left. The RBI is the first in the freshman's career. UCR took the run back in the bottom of the frame to make it 8-1. The Dons added their second run in the eighth. Kim singled to right center and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He stole third, and three batters later, scored on an error by Highlanders junior third baseman Ryan Goetz.

Sophomore righty Jonathan Abramson appeared in his longest outing of the season, allowing one earned run off two hits, and added a walk and three strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Chavez threw the final inning for the Dons, not allowing a run off on hit.
