Diamond Dons Fall To No. 20 UC Irvine 6-0

(Irvine, CA) - San Francisco managed the most hits (7) it has had all weekend, but couldn't push across a run against No. 20 UC Irvine, falling 6-0 in the series finale on Sunday at Anteater Ballpark. The Anteaters improve to 7-0, and drop the Dons to 3-5.
USF managed seven hits in the contest, with senior first baseman Mitchell Bialosky ( 2-for-4 with a double) and sophomore center fielder Bobby Ethel (2-for-3) each smacking two base knocks. Freshman right fielder Connor Bernatz and juniors Zach Kim and Drew Johnson each added one base hit.
Senior right-hander Brian Anderson (1-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs off six hits, two walk, and struck out a batter in 2.0 innings. The Anteaters final run came off freshman left-hander Matt Lujan who gave up two hits, five walks and struck out two batters in 3.1 innings of relief. Freshman right-hander Sean Burns (1.2 innings, one hit, and one strikeout) and freshman left-hander Garrett Luippold (1.0 inning, one walk, one strikeout) each pitched scoreless relief.
UCI's sophomore right-hander Christian Bergman (1-0) earned the victory, tossing 7.0 shutout innings and giving up just five hits, a walk and struck out three Dons.
Irvine scored five runs in the first two innings and one in the sixth to secure the win.
USF opens its 2008 home schedule on Tuesday against San Jose State. First pitch at Benedetti Diamond is set for 2:00 PM
