(DAVIS, CA) - Sophomore outfielder Joe Jacobitz collected three hits and junior catcher Alfonso Valdez' two-run double highlighted a five-run fourth inning leading the University of San Francisco past UC Davis, 8-3, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball at Community Stadium. San Francisco (6-11) won their third out of their last four outings with timely hitting and solid pitching against the Aggies (7-11).

USF got things going in its half of the first as junior outfielder Nick Tarbat led off the game with a walk and later scored on an RBI single from Jacobitz. The Dons would add another run in the top of the second to take a 2-0 before the Aggies got on the board in the second with one run.

San Francisco added a single run in the third then broke the game open with five runs in the fourth. Junior infielder Greg Kagawa's one-out double started the rally as the Dons put up five hits in the inning, the big blow provide by Valdez' two-run double, capping a five-run outburst.

UC Davis got one run back in the bottom of the inning as Dennis Flippen hit a one-out home run down the right field line, his third long fly of the season. The Aggies had a chance to get back in the game in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded with no outs. Junior right-hander Zach Brooks got out of the jam thanks to a double play with just one run crossing the plate to end the Davis threat.

Junior right-hander Bryan Williams got the start for USF and worked five innings, allowing two runs on four hits while evening his record at 1-1 this year. Brooks surrendered three hits and a run over the next three innings before senior right-hander Peter Dunkle came in to work a perfect ninth inning.

In addition to Jacobitz, who finished the day with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored, Valdez had three RBI on the afternoon while Tarbat scored two runs for the Dons.

San Francisco opens West Coast Conference play at home when they host #23 San Dieog in a three game league series. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday, March 8 at Benedetti Diamond.
